Funny thing, this Princess Rescue. The images that come to mind are trite and overplayed. Princess Rescue is not a dashingly handsome Prince slaying the fire-breathing dragon, all the while protecting the fragile, helpless girl. Princess Rescue is not hiding behind the Valiant Warrior as he confronts the Evil Witch intent on causing destruction.It turns out, Princess Rescue has nothing to do with anyone else but the Princess.

Princess Rescue is about being brave and strong for ourselves. It’s about facing our own dragons and poisonous relationships with confidence and the belief that we can not only create our own kingdom, we are inherently equipped with everything we need to maintain our own royal status.

If we choose to, that is.

So what will it be? Will we wait for the Handsome Prince to come rescue us from the dangers in our lives? Will we continue to wait for our Royalty status to become apparent to others so that they will treat us differently? Or – will we raise up our chins, put our shoulders back, and unsheathe our swords to slay our own personal dragons once and for all? Will we teach others how to treat us and put an end to feeling like a peasant?

Fellow Princesses, I am ready. I am not helpless. I do not need rescued. And neither do you. Let’s go slay some dragons.
